Save 35% off my Etsy shop!

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but I haven’t been adding anything to my Etsy shop lately. Sad, I know. What it comes down to my friends is that there just isn’t enough time in the day. But I have been wanting to see some of the garments I’ve made go to a home where they’ll get worn, so I decided that in honor of the weather getting colder (fall. is. coming!) I would put everything on sale. Godspeed my little wool friends. Godspeed.

Wool capelet

I made this capelet a couple of weeks ago for someone who requested it through Etsy. I realized while spending the time after work to make it that I’m about to stop saying yes to special orders. (For the next few months anyway.) I don’t like when creating things feels like a chore, and I really have too much to do right now as it is with wedding planning and fun summer activities in Seattle. Which is a good reason why I should not have talked myself into making an additional capelet, just because I had enough wool. Sigh. Overachiever 4-eva.

Top Secret

Just like the coat from two weeks ago, and the skirt from last Monday – I can’t tell you who this skirt is for. Don’t you love Christmas time? :)

I can tell you that it’s for a friend’s mom. The requests were: a knee-length wool skirt with pleats, a purple lining, fabric-covered buttons and pockets. Here’s to hoping it fits.

Winter capelets for all.

As if I were my own little sweat shop I busted out 4 capelets last week, assembly line style. I can’t even tell you how glad I was to create that last pocket welt. Since I start a job in Seattle on Monday (panic. attack.), I figured I should probably use up some wool that I had before I no longer have as much time to sew.

Don’t forget – I have a coupon code going right now to save you 10% off everything in my Etsy shop. Use ohreallybecky10 when you check out!

Made by me: A coat for Dani

For Dani I made a high-collared royal blue wool coat. The wool was a bit hard to track down, but thankfully I found it because this coat might just be one of my favorites.

Boots: Nordstrom Rack
Earrings: Boutique in Portland

Thank you Dani! :D

Made by me: A hooded capelet

I've always wanted to make a hooded cape/capelet/cloak, but for some reason I never had until a couple of days ago. Personally I think they're the perfect thing on a chilly day to throw on over an outfit you don't want hidden. Plus if it's raining - you have a hood. Magic.

Made by me: Hooded grey coat

As promised, here are the photos of Tina’s finished wool coat. Complete with lining, hood, toggles, zipper, and pockets.

The rest of my outfit:

T-shirt: Gap
Jeans: Nordstrom
Boots: Estate Sale – $5!

Should it weird me out that I bought the boots from an estate sale? It did at first, but then I sprayed some Lysol in there and got over it.

PS. Thankyouthankyouthankyou Tina!

Made by me: Finally, something for me.

A friend of mine recently sent me this photo:

and asked me to make her a longer, fully lined, wool version (as opposed to a wool-blend) of this Old Navy jacket. I made the pattern last week, and sewed a sample up a couple of days ago. Lucky for me, the hips are too small for what they need to be (which is why you always, always, always sew a sample first), and voila!, this coat happens to fit me. I used fabric and trims that I already had, so all that went into this was the cost of interfacing and of course my time. (Yes, technically I paid for all the other supplies at some point…but you know what I mean). Plus I learned a ton about the best way to construct it – if you’ll notice, the zipper on the Old Navy jacket is actually placed off-center so that the placket and toggles can be symmetrical. That part of the pattern was a bit of a headache to figure out. Also, if you ever see this sample coat I made in person, I urge you not to scrutinize the construction.

I can’t wait to sew up the final wool version for Tina. Check back for those photos tomorrow. The suspense, I know.

Made by me: A December wedding in Germany

The other day a woman contacted me via Etsy and asked if I would make her an ivory capelet like this one to wear to her December wedding in Germany. (I was obviously very, very excited and said heck yes.) The changes I made were to have an ivory lining instead of red, and self-fabric covered buttons instead of gold. If I blur my eyes and envision a wedding dress underneath, I can tell it’s going to be beautiful. :)

Made by me: A cloak for Megan

Remember Steve’s cousin Megan from last week’s post? In addition to the two dresses I made her, she also recently asked me to make her a capelet. At this very moment she should be wearing it among the fall foliage in New York City, but the good ol’ USPS screwed up the “guaranteed 12pm delivery time” by delivering it at 4:00pm…right about the time Megan was halfway to NYC. It’s not surprising that it got messed up considering the first Post Office I went to here in Vancouver, WA doesn’t have the ability to overnight a package (It’s in a Hallmark store. Silly me for expecting otherwise.), and at the second one I was behind a woman shipping a box marked “parole clothes”.  Why isn’t there a reality t.v. show set here?

Thanks again Megan!!
